CHAPTER VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION Board of Directors - Youth
OUR MISSION · To stop impaired driving and to support victims of this violent crime. ROLE PROFILE · As Director - Youth, you are the youth leader / representative for a dynamic grassroots MADD Canada Chapter within your community. You will work collaboratively with fellow board members; community partners and the national staff to support our mission. COMMITMENT· 1-2 year term, 5-8+ hours / month. PREREQUISITE · Be an active Chapter member. RESPONSIBILITIES: KEY TASKS / ACTIVITIES · Promote opportunities to educate youth about the dangers of impaired driving (drinking and / or drugs) within your community. · Actively seek opportunities to engage youth- promote opportunities to volunteer and / or fundraise on behalf of MADD Canada and / or your local Chapter. · Work closely with National’s School Outreach Program Co-ordinator and / or the Director - Education & Awareness to book multi-media shows in your community (i.e., ACE & MIND CONTROL). · Promote MADD Canada’s poster / essay / multi-media contests within your community. · Promote MADD Canada’s bursary program. · Chair a youth council / group within your Chapter (provided there is interest). · Liaise with other MADD Canada youth directors across Canada. · Sit on like-minded committees that share MADD Canada’s mission. · Work collaboratively with fellow board members; your community; community partners (i.e., police, fire, emergency medical services, media, schools, health department, local merchants, companies, etc…) and the national office. · Co-ordinate (in partnership with the Director - Education & Awareness) youth specific displays, community presentations, health fairs, school presentations, etc… · Utilize resources provided by the national office to educate and raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving. Consider an assortment of resources: brochures, promotional items, flyers, booklets, fatal vision goggles, etc… · Be knowledgeable about MADD Canada’s policies, programs and services. · Attend monthly board / Chapter meetings. · Attend annual general and / or general meetings. · Assist committee chairs and members as necessary. · Act as a spokesperson & community liaison for the Chapter (as necessary). · Promote the Chapter positively within your community and lead by example. · Attend the National Leadership Conference (strongly encouraged). · Actively seek opportunities to partner and build strategic alliances / partnerships. PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALITIES· A youth – someone that understands youth and can advocate on their behalf. · You possess strong leadership, communication and networking skills. · You are a strategic thinker. · You are a people person; you are friendly and you are a team player. · You possess tact, discipline and attention to detail. · You have prior experience serving on a board of directors (preferred, but not required). ORIENTATION · You will receive an Orientation Guide and might be asked to attend an Orientation Session (from / by your local Chapter).TRAINING· You will be supported and trained by fellow board members and / or the Chapter Administrative Assistant.
