CHAPTER VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION

  

 

OUR MISSION        

·        To stop impaired driving and to support victims of this violent crime.

 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

·        Attend impaired driving court proceedings.

·        Raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving (drinking and / or drugs).

·        Create a visible presence for MADD Canada and the local Chapter in the courtroom.

·        Monitor and record the outcomes of impaired driving crashes.

 

COMMITMENT                                                                                                                    

·        1-2 days / month, during the day.

 

PREREQUISITE

·        Successfully complete the Victim Services Volunteer (VSV) training level 1 (on-line).

 

REQUIREMENTS

·        Successfully complete CM training (on-line).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: KEY TASKS / ACTIVITIES       

·        Attend impaired driving court proceedings in your community.

·        Raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving by creating a visible and respectful presence in the courtroom for MADD Canada and the local Chapter.

·        Monitor and record the outcomes of impaired driving crashes.

·        Use the CM report form to track details and compile facts and statistics.  Submit the report form to your local Chapter.

·        File any and all documentation with the local Chapter office.

·        Provide a monthly update (include your name, your Chapter name, the number of times you attended court, the number of charges you monitored, any outcomes / results and lastly that you submitted the report form to your local Chapter) to the National Victim Services Manager.

·        Dress professionally.  Wear MADD Canada merchandise (preferably) i.e., vest.

·        If asked, distribute relevant resources and materials to victims.

·        Refer victims to the Chapter’s victim services team (Director – Victim Services and / or a VSV) as appropriate.

·        Introduce yourself to the crown attorney and court clerk whenever possible (introductions made to defense counsel are permitted).

·        Participate on quarterly CM conference calls (recommended at least once a year).

·        Prior training and / or knowledge as it relates to victim support (an asset).

·        Familiar with legal terminology.

·        Possess tact, discipline and attention to detail.

 

ORIENTATION

·        You will receive an Orientation Guide and might be asked to attend an Orientation Session (from / by your local Chapter).

 

TRAINING

·        VSV level 1 (on-line) & CM (on-line) available via MADD Canada’s national office.

·         You will be supported and trained by the National Victim Services Manager, Director - Victim Services and / or the Chapter Administrative Assistant.

 

OPPORTUNITES FOR

·        Retired individuals and seniors.

·        Working professionals (with flexible work schedules).

·        Law students and college students (i.e., police foundations, law & security, etc…).

·        Victims of impaired driving.
