Ed joined the former MADD Halton/Peel Chapter in 2006 as a member and concerned citizen.  He later became the Peel Regioal Police Liaison to the Chapter Board of Directors, then Director of Volunteers and now as Chapter Vice President.

"In my career as a police officer, with 14 years in the Regional Breath Unit, I have personally seen the devistation and impact caused by drunk drivers.  By being part of MADD, I'm working towards the prevention of Canada's #1 criminal cause of death, impaired driving."


CHAPTER VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

Board of Directors - Vice-President

 

OUR MISSION
 

·         To stop impaired driving and to support victims of this violent crime.

 

ROLE PROFILE
 

·         As Chapter Vice-President, you are the co-leader of a dynamic grassroots MADD Canada Chapter within your community.  You will work collaboratively with fellow board members; community partners and the national staff to support our mission.

 

COMMITMENT                                                                                                                   

·         1-2 year term, followed by a 1-2 year term as President (preferred).

·         8-10+ hours / month.

 

PREREQUISITE
 

·         Be an active Chapter member.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: KEY TASKS / ACTIVITIES  
    

·         In the absence of the / a Chapter President, assume the role of Chapter President (i.e., chair monthly board / Chapter meetings- please see the President’s position description).

·         Assist the Chapter President with annual general and / or general meeting planning.

·         Assist the Chapter President with an annual strategic planning session / retreat.

·         Assist committee chairs and members as necessary.

·         Work collaboratively with fellow board members; your community; community partners (i.e., police, fire, emergency medical services, media, schools, health department, local merchants, companies, etc…) and the national office.

·         Be knowledgeable about MADD Canada’s policies, programs and services.

·         Act as a spokesperson & community liaison for the Chapter (as necessary).

·         Assume overall responsibility for volunteer and membership recruitment.

·         Assist the President with board recruitment and succession planning.

·         Promote the Chapter positively within your community.

·         Act as a signing officer for the Chapter (as required).

·         Attend the National Leadership Conference (strongly encouraged).

·         Actively seek opportunities to partner and build strategic alliances / partnerships.

·         Lead by example.

ORIENTATION

 

·         You will receive an Orientation Guide and might be asked to attend an Orientation Session (from / by your local Chapter).

 

TRAINING

 

·         You will be supported and trained by fellow board members and / or the Chapter Administrative Assistant.
